I'd like to ask if there's a way to change the background color of an animation in the timeline. I'm able to transition the color of a particular layer of my object in the timeline, but can I do the same transformation to the background color I'm using? Thanks for any help!

not to my knowledge...
you could add a big enough plane in the background and apply a material there which you could animate, or, what I do:
render with an alpha channel and create the animated background in After Effects.
