Title: Normal Ram Use vs. GPU Ram Use, almost double the size
Post by: Chris_80 on January 09, 2020, 08:00:52 AM
Hello,

I tried a Keyshot 9 trial version because of it's GPU render, which I was looking very much forward to.
I do have two RTX 2080 with 12Gb Ram. I used some of my old scenes which used about 5-6Gb normal Ram.
When I turned on the GPU renderer, it whent out of memory. Then I used a scene with around 4Gb normal Ram and the GPU Ram went up to 9Gb.
Can anyone tell me why this is, is that normal or just my scenes?

@Luxion, are you working on a version were you can combine the GPU Ram? It was mentionen in one of your Youtube videos.

Thank you very much,
Christian

Yes, we will be combining GPU memory soon.
One thing that may happen is that textures can get expanded on the GPU. What kind of textures are you using?

Thanks a lot for the combining GPU Ram feedback, that is definately great news!

Concerning the textures, I am using usually 4K Textures from Poliigon and personal ones.
The increase of the GPU Ram is kind of a pitty, but if you are working on combining the Ram, it doesn't matter anymore : )!

Thank you!

There are also GPU memory optimizations available in KS9.1 beta which can be accessed through this forum.

Is that the version you have been testing?
