Title: Material Templates create duplicate materials, how to fix?
Post by: Aeonjoey on April 23, 2020, 05:12:56 PM
Hi there, I have several dozen .3DM files to load for a project, and luckily they all have the same materials applied from Rhino. So Material Templates works to get the materials I want in Keyshot. BUT Every time I import I end up with duplicate materials (e.g. white plastic, white plastic #1) this happens no matter what options I choose in the import box, what am I missing here? is there no way to fix this upon import?
as a short cut for fixing the model afterwards, a friend showed me to select both materials and right click>link materials, but there's dozens and dozens of materials to do this to, and I have to do it after each import. Any ideas?

Did you use the Automatic option when made the Template or the manual option?  When you choose the manual option to create your Material Template you can choose "Copy Materials to Template" or "Reference Library Materials". Do you know which one you selected?  I think the issue is that you need to import it, save it to the material library then have it reference that on subsequent imports

ahh I don't remember if I did manual or automatic, but i'll try those suggesions! Thanks.
a friend showed me a slight workaround at least to fix the duplicates, select them in the materials list in the scene panel (selecting the 'correct' or correctly named material first, then cmd/ctrl clicking the other(s)) and then rightclick> link materials. this was the fastest fix and i could do it after finishing all the importing.
