Title: Displacement Material will not cut into surface geometry

I am trying to add a surface detail with the displacement node.  I have a gradient png texture to create the geometry.  I cannot flip which way the texture pushes the model geometry, I made the displacement height negative, and execute geometry node, but it doesn't change how it displaces the geometry.  I tried it on a basic shape and it does work , so it is only not working on my geometry.  Images below show it working how i want it on the left, and the right is my model.
