Title: How to make a revolve animation?
Post by: kaspergk on February 03, 2021, 07:27:01 AM
I'v been looking for a way to make a gradually revolve animation in Keyshot. I'm new to the animation stuff so I can't figure out which approach to use. I'v attached a video to describe the animation I'm looking for. :)

Thanks

That is a tricky question. And I wish to have time to solve it. But I'm curious to see any solution.
It might be done with an animation in the opacity. Kind of an animation that can be used as an alpha channel.

The only way I see it working, is to animate it in a Software like Blender or C4D and import it through Alembic.

I have a special cut object in mind. Or an animation that can be used in the opacity.

Hey Marco, I've tried it with cutaway to see if it could be a solutuon in KeyShot, but it doesn't work as simple as the "lathe" modifier in 3DS, Blender & Co.

You can animate this effect using video mattes, but there will be an issue with the caps.

KSP attached.

You're a genius Eugen!
I didn't know how to describe it correctly, but you built exactly what I had in mind! And yes, I didn't thought about the caps, you're right, that's not the best solution.

Curious to see Kaspers solution.

Here's a quick and dirty solution using an object as cut material.
Attached you'll find the scene (vase.bip) and the cut object modeled in Creo Parametric 7.0 (part and bip export from plugin)
To view the GIF, just download it! (I have no Webspace at this moment)

BAM!!! Marco, it's kind of black magic or vodoo :o Very cool solution I wouldn't think about. But comon, this is such an overkill for a simple issue like this ;). This kind of animation is something you learn in the first lessons of C4D, Blender or 3DS Max. A simple Alembic workflow would do the trick. ::) Anyway, kudos for blowing my mind.

Thanks Eugen!

Yes, I agree with you. I wish to learn Blender, one day!

That was a cute nut to crack.
