Title: Material Difficulties
Post by: TheTactical on March 21, 2012, 01:04:22 PM
Hey guys, I'm working on a robot in 3ds max and i am using a technique called kitbashing. Basically I have robot parts and i combine them and make a robot. So after that i exported and put it into keyshot and tried adding a material to a specific part, and my problem is that it also adds the same material to other parts as well. Can please someone tell me what im doing wrong please!!

Yep- any part or surface that you wish to apply a KS material to has to be "mapped" in your native CAD.  Parts or surfaces can be any color- it only instructs KS that this is where you want a KS material.

You may also find, depending on your CAD structure, that all are actually descrete parts, but they all take the same material in KS.  If so, just go to the top aassembly in the KS "Scene Tree" and RC>Unlink to break them apart.  You can then relink as usual when you are applying materials with C/P or other KS techniques.
