Title: A problem with glass material
Post by: lipceanu on April 20, 2012, 01:59:09 AM
Hi! I try to make a beer cup and get a b/w in the middle (2.png attached) in place of transparent yellow beer. I have 3 objects in scene: water - luquid beer material, cup- glass transparent, and a foam. Can somebody help me, please? Is the problem in render, or in polygons (done in Maya)?

2.png - when glass object is added

Take a look at the wine glass file in the resources/scenes folder.

This file is set up correctly for this type of render. You'll see there are three elements including: the outer glass (where the glass is touching air), a surface for where the glass and liquid meet (inner cup area), and a surface for the top of the liquid (where liquid and air meet).

Breaking up the model in this way allows you to control the refraction values for each element (IOR in/out... see the wine glass for the correct values). It also avoids the issue of having two surfaces in the same place creating strange artifacts on the surface.

Thank you! That helped.  Also I missed unlink material to do on the group of layers, that was necessary.
