Title: Helical Worm Section
Post by: Chad Holton on February 20, 2010, 10:34:52 AM
Tried out the "cast iron bump" texture. I think it's my new orange peel.

That's nice!  ;)
How do you get the sectioned part a different colour when it's part of the solid casing.
And, if you don't mind me asking, what metals are you using for the shaft(s) and the hex bolt heads?

Thanks, jhiker!
After slicing each part when creating the section, I would change the color of the "sliced surface" before bringing into KeyShot.
I usually start with brass or something that uses the metal shader (and change it to some oddball color in the bottom quarter of the color pallet). I never save the material, so it's usually different each time as I would probably change it anyway based on the environment being used. One other thing is the roughness in the material box, I usually have it around .1 for bolts and around .02 for shafts. The output shaft (left side of pic), I did use a slight scratch bump give it a little character.
