Title: Quaternion Julia Fractals
Post by: Despot on March 19, 2013, 03:32:58 AM
Hey

I've decided to create a new thread dedicated to these beautiful mathematical objects - I'll keep adding images as and when...

I'm a huge fan of fractals in any shape or form, but especially the Julia set...

I don't think the majority of Keyshooters realise how unique it is to have the ability to render a 3D slice of a 4D fractal in an advanced render engine like KeyShot - in the past the only way to do this was to use a dedicated fractal raytracer, then export the geometry as an .OBJ or such... even then, filesizes were huge and often unmanageable. So, thanks Henrik, these renders are dedicated to you...

John

Love the material on the second image. Very nicely done.

Thanks John! The images look great. And the more fractal images that are posted the more likely it will be updated in future releases of KeyShot :) We may even add some animation capabilities...

That looks close to a wasp nest outer structure - freaky dude!

Thanks for the comments...

Here's a profile view of the same fractal but with a different texture...

These are so awesome! They all look great but really like the material on the forth one (wood with a little paint splash).. I can't stop looking at it.

Thanks Chad - much appreciated, yeah it's my favourite too - the wood material was created especially for it...

Would you like a larger version ?

Sure! I'm in need of a new wallpaper.  ;D
Around 1440x900 would be great.

John, would you please explain how you created the OBJ file, I'm also a fractal fan.
There are several older discussions about a Voxel to OBJ conversion at fractal forums.com.

Try to google 'Fractals in KeyShot' and you will find a way to render fractals directly in KeyShot.

Hugo, there is this post (https://www.keyshot.com/keyshot-pi-day-fractal-download/2013/) KeyShot material type) and  this post (https://www.keyshot.com/fractals-among-us-download-this-keyshot-material-ball-fractal/2013/) (other KeyShot .ksp's).
