Title: Animating rotating crankshaft and linked con-rod
Post by: peter_t on March 30, 2013, 02:37:10 AM
When I last inquired (18 months ago) KeyShot was unable to animate a rotating crankshaft with linked con-rod and reciprocating piston assembly. As a result I did not proceed with a KeyShot purchase. I used to use Alias Designer, and this type of pivot point assembly was not a problem. I would like to use KeyShot but do not want to add unnecessary 3D models of 'helper pins' within my CAD model simply to assist KeyShot achieve this fairly basic animation requirement. I simply would like to add a non geometrical, movable, 'pivot point' (and axis) at the center of rotation.

Can KeyShot 4 now animate this type of assembly? If not, can KeyShot support give some indication of when this functionality will be included. I am a user of PTC CREO Parametric. Thanks.

At this point in time it is still easiest to set this up inside Creo, and then transfer the mechanism to KeyShot using the latest plugin. You can play back the mechanism inside KeyShot, add additional animations, and render it out.
