Print Page - Material templates

Title: Material templates - Help!

I'm having a problem creating material templates.
I load a model - select 'View' - then 'Material template' - try to create a new one with 'Add....' but when I OK it the dialogue box is not populated with the parts in the scene tree.
Instead it just shows 'Default'
What can I be doing wrong?

did you apply materials to the model?
