Title: Ground Reflectivity
Post by: fcoltro on December 11, 2013, 09:35:19 AM
hi all,

Please, is there any way to change the reflectivity of the ground. I see that the reflection is stronger with low angle.
Maybe it could be more options like fade off distance, anisotropy, reflectivity angle.

Hi,

there are three options:

1. Go to the 'Project > Environment' tab, there under 'Ground' you can enable ground reflections. This will enable some subtle mirrored reflections.

2. Go to 'Edit > Add Ground Plane' to add a physical ground plane to your model. By default it has a non reflective ground material, but by double clicking it, you can change the 'Specular' colour of the material to a mid grey or white. This is result in a reflective ground plane.  With this material you have more options, for example you can add some scattering to the reflection by adjusting the Roughness slider, and add more samples for smoother results. (You can make the reflections even more pronounced by increasing the Refraction Index under the advanced settings.

3. Start the same as option 2. by adding the ground plane to your model. Then from the Materials Library, drag any material sphere onto ground plane geometry. (for example Chrome for near mirror reflections. Drawback of this options is that the edge of ground plane will not blend with the background environment in the same way the ground material does.

Hope this helps,
