Title: Another wierd project- "Side Dump Car"
Post by: Speedster on January 02, 2014, 09:17:48 AM
Hi all;

Here's to a GREAT 2014!  Kicking it off with another of my weird projects- a "Contractor's Side Dump Car", made in the thousands by the Western Wheeled Scraper Company.  They were used in dam, bridge, road and railroad building, as well as mining.  Not sure why I get off on these weird subjects, but hey, it's fun, they sell well on TurboSquid, and I sell blacklines of them on my website for modelers.  They're a little "profit center" that keeps me off the streets.

Modeled in SolidWorks.  I "planted" the track and ties into the ground by pulling a backplate-only render, then placing it in Photoshop over the beauty shot.  Then I did selective erasure to bring the foreground over the ties. That's my standard trick now.

Main image was slightly desaturated.  The small images show "as rendered" and of course, the now mandatory "clay"!

Another- "dumped".  My goals with this right now is blending the model with backplates, a very worthy exercise!
