How come I am not getting any global illumination control or DOF or Caustics. I run a core I7 16gb ddr3 8 cores. why are these settings grayed out

These controls are greyed out, because:

you haven't checked GI/indirect illumination in the project settings.
you haven't enabled DOF on your camera.
you haven't checked focused caustics in the project settings.

Or something else is wrong. :)

I see I guess Keyshot just put them on default settings when I installed it

Barbarian - I'm not sure I understand your comment. All the settings Dries mentioned are not enabled by default.

I've noticed the Self Shadows, Global Illumination, Ground Illumination and Focused Caustics options are greyed out when the quality is set to "Performance" (Settings tab in Project window). Select "Quality", and they will no longer be greyed out.
