Title: I tried - Single Xeon E5 2670 V2 2.5 GHz (10 Core) 104.9 FPS
Post by: kreita on April 27, 2014, 05:29:37 PM
This workstation can be self-built for around $3000.00, although I decided to purchase it from Thinkmate because of their experience with matching components and a 3 year advanced parts replacement warranty. It renders over 3x faster then my i7 laptop, so I'm happy.

Motherboard: SuperMicro X9SRA
CPU: Xeon E5-2670 v2 2.50GHz 25MB cache (115W)
Memory: 16GB PC3-12800, 1600MHz ECC Register DIMM
SSD: 256GB Samsung 840 Pro 2.5 SATA, 6.0Gb/s
Hard Drive: 1 TB SATA, 6.0Gb/s 7200RPM 3.5 - Seagate Constellation
GPU: NVIDIA Quadro K2000 2.0GB GDDR5
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Nice results Kreita!

Did you do any tuning or BIOS special settings to your PC?

I am asking because I just got a new PC too and my results are much lower than yours, although our PCs are quite similar:
these are my results:

Comparing both CPUs (what actually is the main power resource for KS) your CPU (10 core) is slightly better than the one I have chosen according to this benchmark:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E5-2670+%40+2.60GHz

But the difference in FPS is really huge.

If you have any performance tips, it would be great to hear!

Have a good day!

Cheers!

Hi Dejot,

I ran the benchmark test after unpacking the computer and installing Keyshot, no adjustments were made to the Bios or really anything. I'm unsure what the main power resource is for Keyshot. Please note that the processor is the E5-2670 V2 which has more cores than the E5-2670. The V2 has a base clock speed of 2.50GHz with a max (Turbo Speed) of 3.3GHz running through 10 independent processing units (115W). I noticed on this blog that some machines actually have two E5-2600 series processors (up to 24 cores) and can achieve 170+ FPS. Awesome results!!!... However way out of my budget. I would be interested in hearing about performance tips as well.

Here's the CPU benchmark details on the processor: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E5-2670+v2+%40+2.50GHz&id=2152

Best,
Ken

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your reply.

Ahhhh... missed that V2 detail ;) That makes more sense comparing the benchmark results and CPU prices.
That makes your PC even more valuable. I paid for my workstation $3800 ... next time I will def check Thinkmate if they ship to Europe.

Thanks again for the clarification.
