Post by: Esben Oxholm on January 12, 2015, 08:46:07 AM
Last start up the speed render contests again, with this pen that  has chosen by the winner of contest #6, red_orca.
Do your best render of it in two hours!

Hi,

First attempt:
05 min: browsing for real PILOT pen image
50 min: applying material and circular model pattern.

Image is straight from screenshot since the render result is too bright on certain part (still don't know what the culprit is).

Hope you like it.

Having so much fun with this model. Just can't stop.
Nice pick, orca.  ;)

2nd render:
5 min: making label for the writing in PS
30 min: material, hdri, labelling, camera position in KS5
5 min: adding gold ink to the tip of pen in PS  ;D

That gold one's pretty mean! Really good detail getting the slight reflection in the ink.

Alright. I'm curious now. How'd you get the gel pen effect in the ink well? I tried to figure out how to do the same and failed, hah.

Nice render. Really like the dark environment & 007 theme.

Transparent Gel pen effect inside the tube is pretty simple:
- First, I duplicate the ink inside the tube, put them side-by-side & make them shorter
- Then apply transparent material such as liquid or transparent plastic & adjust the color to one of them

Hope it helps.

Good to see some entries!

When that's said, I want to ask if somebody is up for running these speed render contest the next couple of month? Unfortunately I have to go back and forth to the hospital and won't be able to keep it up in that period.

Esben,

I don't mind doing it since I'm [nearly] always available. I need to learn how to do the whole vote thing. Also, what's the calendar like? Mon-Mon for entries, then Mon-Mon for voting?

bronson -

As long as you haven't figured how to switch modes I'll post my entries here...

Steve

I admit, it's not fair because it took about 3 hours...
So don't consider it for the voting list.
(But I couldn't resist.)

Not a big deal. We can always start another contest and worry about voting later. Do you want to pick a model to render up?

Nice render, Steve. More entries are better.  :)

I think we should start the next one with the Gundam Lego model picked by Phillipe, winner of submarine render.
