Title: Keyshot rendring time is slow: Need Help in upgrading my CPU
Post by: satish gobind on February 04, 2015, 04:52:40 AM
Hi All,

Currently I have AMD Fx 6300 processor,
ASRock 970 Extreme 4 Motherboard  with 16GB Ram

My rendering is damn slow I couldn't get to see the changes instantly every time I do some changes or zoom it takes time to render up. So I have planned to upgrade my CPU to the below changes Specs on considering the fact that Keyshot performance depends on the CPU cores and threads i.e. CPU power.
                          Intel i7 4790K processor
                          Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 2
                          16GB RAM
If I upgraded to the above specs will my rendering speed increase ? As only this specs comes within my budget.

Please help me here folks !!

As your motherboard is compatible with the last 8 core AMD cpu's it might cost you less to change only the cpu for something like the 8370 or so.
If it's only for keyshot having 2 more cores and a bit more power per core should make a good difference.

But if you can afford to move to an i7 it will definitely be a bigger jump.

Hi Satish,

Bump your base cpu multiplier from 17.5x (3.5 Ghz) to 18x (3.6 Ghz) and the Fx6300 goes a bit better. If you are using a good heatpipe cpu cooler than standard that unit that came with FX6300 (Aluminum/cooper core) you may bump it to 18.5x. I used that setting on my FX6300 before I handed it down to my son. I am currently using a FX6350 running at base 3.9 Ghz, runs better. It all boils down to what you do, I model 85% of the time and just render 10% of what I model. But if your render most of the time, a FX8350 with a base clock of 4 Ghz will be a good alternative to your setup or FX8370 as EngOS suggested. Make sure your psu can handle the 125w cpu.

I have a FX8310 95w cpu on transit, and I will give you an update on how the 2 xtra works as I plan to render more often. If you do change your platform, get a E3 1276 v3 cost less than the i7 4790K or the E3 1281 v3

update FX8310 at 17x - 18.5 clock multiplier x 214 (memory speed) bus = 3.638 - 3.958 GHz peak 70 fps - 46.7 fps, previous FX6350 settles at 35.1 A FX8350 will be at 50fps+ result at a base speed 4.0 Ghz. 3.958Ghz X 8 = 31.664  46.7 / 31.664 = 1.474 fps/Ghz If a higher fps is desired, go i7 with new motherboard.
