I have a MacBook Pro capable of running Keyshot 5.3 Pro on either OSX side or under BootCamp Win 8.1.

On the OSX side it fires up KeyShot 5 in about 3 Seconds.  On the Win 8.1 side it takes about 30 to 90 seconds with the progress bar on the splash screen stuck at about 1% (see screen grab) and then jumps to a white screen (see screen grab) for a further 20 seconsds or so before finally gettiny to a "populated" KeyShot window that says "not responding" and eventually it starts working after about 2 minutes.

Loading from the Cro3 Plugin gives the same result.

I have over 130Gb of free space on the Bootcamp partition.  Once ebventually loaded it seems to work fine.

Any thoughts on why it is so slow?

Thanks

Stephen

P.S. have tried completely removing and re-installing KeyShot 5 on the Win8.1 side, still does the same.

Hi Stephen,

Are your KeyShot resources local or do you have all/some pointing to a network location?

Chad

All resources are local.  They sit within Dropbox so I can access on desktop and laptop, both Mac and PC look at the same folders on DropBox, so it should be a "fair race" its just the mac side is about 50 times faster to start, unfortunately Creo doesn't work on a Mac.

Thanks

Hi Stephen,

It could be a permission issue, did you use the "install just for me" setting when reinstalling KeyShot, if not try to choose that one?

You can also try to disable the welcome screen.

1. Open the Windows explorer and browse to your Documents folder
2. Find the KeyShot 5 folder and open it. Inside you will find keyshot5.xml
3. Right-click keyshot5.xml and select to Open with > Notepad
4. Go to Edit > Find
5. Type the following in the search bar: show_welcome_window and click Next
6. In your document "show_welcome_window" is highlighted. In the same line you will see the word "true". Erase "true" and substitute with "false" (Note: everything else on that line should remain as is)
7. Save your changes and close the file
8. Now go ahead open KeyShot.

Hi Niko,

Many thanks for your reply. I folowed the instructions, changed the "show_welcome_window" to false, but doesn't seem to make any difference I'm afraid, I think it now always shows the same welcome screen as opposed to the 'variety' that it normally shows (see image), but still takes the same time.

Tried rebooting, just in case something needed to 'flush' out of the system, but again, no change.

Any further thoughts welcome!

Thanks

Stephen

Okay
Then lets try to set the permission directly.

1. Go to your Documents folder
2. Right-click the KeyShot 5 folder
3. Select "Properties"
4. Disable "Read only"
5. Go to the Security tab
6. Click the Edit button. Ensure that all users have read and write permissions
7. Click Apply and OK
8. Click Apply and OK once more.

Well, I'm afraid nothing suggested seemed to help, but thanks for the suggestions anyhow.

I upgraded to Windows 10, it behaved the same way.  Creo3 graphics were also dog slow on and external Mac monitor, (Solidworks with same assembly ran just fine) our IT suggested the only way to fix was a complete re-install of Windows 10.

I did that, Creo still runs like a total dog, but the upside is that Keyshot 5 loads quickly, so solved by accident.

I then made the mistake of updating to KS6, thinking my supported license would work, it didn't, but now the plugin doesn't work either as I can't get it to automatically open KS5, it wants to open KS6 despite being "pointed" to the KS5 folder .....Ahhhh!

Hello,

The Plugin will use the latest installed version KeyShot.
By reinstalling KeyShot 5 you should get the plugin to use KeyShot 5 again.

sdesaulles

Thanks for that.

I'm hopeful that license@luxion.com might respond soon, but from what you're saying I think I would need to uninstall KS6, uninstall KS5, uninstall the plugin, then reinstall KS5, then the Creo3 plugin, and I'm back to a working KS5 from plugin. Then I need to reinstall KS6 and update the Creo plugin once license@ respond.

I think I will cross my fingers that license@luxion come back to me soon, they don't send any kind of 'ticket' or autoresponse to emailed requests even, so its a mystery whether they will respond to yesterday's request this afternoon or in a week's time.

Thanks Again

Stephen
