Hi all,

Just a quick note to see if others have experienced/fixed this issue...since upgrading to 6.3 I cannot import native SolidWorks files into KeyShot. Here's the conditions:

> I'm using SolidWorks 2017 SP2 and KS 6.3 locked node.
> Previously SolidWorks 2016 SP5 and KS 6.0 locked node = no issue.
> Problem seems to occur with large assemblies only, small assemblies and parts okay.
> Open SW, go to KS plugin, 'Render' = okay.
> Open KeyShot, locate STEP file, 'Import' = okay.
> Open KeyShot, located SW file, 'Import' = not okay.
> Warning shown is "(file)...does not contain 3d geometry. You may need polygonal data from your modelling system. For additional help..." blah, blah, blah.

Any ideas? It's not causing me much grief, but shouldn't be occurring regardless.

Cheers,
Duane

I have questions for a better understanding:
> Why do you want to open SWX files directly, when you can use the plugin?
   - The direct import has no access to configurations and similar infos
> Do you ever tried to export bip files via SWX plugin instead of the render feature?
> Does the import problem still exist on KeyShot 7?

Thanks Marco,

I use the plug-in generally, but it's not always convenient to render directly from SW. For instance, if I am importing an SW model as additional geometry into an existing scene - KS won't do it. As an aside, this problem is not unique to adding SW data into an existing scene, I have noted KS cannot open them regardless. The only way I can use SW files is via the plug-in, or save as a STEP and import.

I have had this issue with KS6.3 only, I have not tried KS7.0 yet.

Is there an example you can share? We do this all the time.

I can't really share because nothing actually happens. This is after 10 minutes...

...then KS locked up and crashed. Otherwise, established .bip files open and render fine.

I tried to import this file into an existing scene and got the same result, not even the usual warning with this file. Do you want me to send you one of my SW files?

UPDATE: We have a resolution:

> Issue is unique to KS 6.3, solved with KS 7.0
> KS 6.3 did not like conversion of Chinese characters in the file name of SW parts (e.g. "µ×°å-1_Chef Sides.SLDPRT"), so renaming these would also fix the problem.

I have since downloaded KS 7.0 and all is well.

Other parts in @degruch's example were failing as well. Not sure why, but it is all fixed in KeyShot 7.

This same thing is happening to me to. I will load in a SW file, and it will either freeze or go through all of the "loading windows" and then load up a blank screen.
