Windows 10, 4k screen
Keyshot 8.0.247 demo version

I'm using the new 8 version and I'm finding a couple issues:

1. When I add a label to a material, there is very little space available for the label editing controls in the material editing window. See the picture I attached and the area I circled in red. I can adjust the size vertically a little but not enough to make much difference. Is there a way to hide some parts that I don't need to use? I was able to help it a bit by making the list of materials at the bottom very small.

2. I'm noticing applying high resolution PNG labels to objects causes the label editor and scene preview to slow to a crawl. I'm not able to adjust the location of the label when it does that. Is there a way to improve?

1) In the preferences, INTERFACE->MATERIALS at the bottom uncheck "Show in project material list under material properties tab" and that should give you a little more room by getting rid of the materials list. What is your monitor resolution? Even on my smaller monitor I have ample room to work.

2) What is high resolution? Remember that PNG's can be uncompressed and rather large, How much RAM do you have? Several large PNG's can chew up RAM quite quickly if you have multiple textures/labels in your scene. What are your computer specs (processor, ram, GFX card, etc) just to get an idea of what you are running?

I tend to work in performance mode a lot, just to place things and get things setup. Have you tried that?

Thanks for that tip Matt! I guess that was one of the things I glossed over in the settings ;D I too have space issues, so that helps!

Another suggestion for you Brian is that you could create a separate workspace specifically for working on your labels. That way you could have exactly what you need showing up without the unnecessary clutter.

Like Matt, I also work in performance mode frequently. The only catch for me is that I forget I'm in performance mode and wonder why things don't look like I think they should  :P

The material workspace option does help. Thanks for that tip.

For the label issue: Computer is a Dell Precision 7720 i7-7920HQ @3.1GHz, 64Gb Memory, NVidia Quadro P5000

The label itself is a single color 7.9mb PNG file. I use it for lots of different renderings of computer display concepts and it worked fine in Keyshot 4. It's only when I started using Keyshot8 that the label issue came up and doesn't seem to make any difference if performance mode is on or not. The issue is that I can't move the texture interactively on the object like I could in KS4. The program just bogs down to a crawl while I'm doing anything with the label.

Hi Brian,

Would you mind sending the texture to support@luxion.com letting them know the details of the performance decrease you are seeing?

Thanks

Hi Rex,

I've been doing some debugging the past hour and discovered the issue only happens when the "High DPI Support" option is checked in the preferences. When I turn that option off, I can move the label similar speed as KS4. Does it still help to send the texture? I really need the "High DPI Support" option.

Rex

That's alright, we will investigate and let you know if we need any more info. Thanks!

Hello Brian,

I have been able to reproduce the issue described in  #2 on our end.
As you mention i seems to be directly linked to the "High DPI Support" setting.

I have provided the development team with the required information.

Thank you for your report.

Regarding the Space issue described in #1, you can also try to:

  • Disable Text  on the icons in the ribbon(above the realtime view)
  • Disable text and set the icon scale to small in the Toolbar(below the realtime view)
These options are available by right-clicking the elements in the UI.
You can also try to decrease the font size via the interface preferences in KeyShot.

This should clear up more vertical space for the Project window.
If that is not enough space you can un-dock the "Material" Tab from the Project window by dragging the "Material" tab away from the Project window and save it in a workspace as Eric suggested.

In case you run into anything else please let us know.

Thanks, those tips do help a little. I also found docking the material window on a second display helps too. But I also notice the program acts weird when I do that. I'll see if I can find an exact issue.
Looking forward to an update to fix the label placement issue. I can switch off High DPI support while moving labels until that's fixed but it's a bit of a pain.
