hello
i imported a IGES file (it happens with OBJ file aswell)
when i attached the model to the ground it gives a weird shadow like the model has air and not fully attached to the ground(or part of it).
in my 3d software (NX 7.5) the the bottom of the model is flat for sure.
by the way it happens in some other models that i imported.

why this shadow happens?

thank you

Reduce ground size in the environement tab ... that will help ;) ... carefull though not to reduce it by too much or it'll cut off the shadow.

This is a well known issue ;)

it not really helps...
maybe it reduces the size of the "black spots" but it doesn't disappears.
looks like it's a software bug..

any other solution?

Try bumping up the shadow quality under the Project>Settings tab. If that doesn't seem to help, the part may be really small compared to the ground plane - so scale the object up to about 2 or 3. Let us know how it goes.

Also try raising the model above the ground just a TINY bit.  For some reason that often solves the problem, and it's so slight you don't really notice it.  The best option is to put the model on a ground plane modeled as physical geometry.  I like this method as you have complete control over materials, shadows and reflections.
