Hi all;

Several years ago I modeled a concept rod based on the Delahaye Type165 Cabriolet, but never liked it.  I'm a "coupe" guy.  Anyway, as a break after a year-long medical device project, last week I started over with this coupe concept in SolidWorks.  Based it more on the 1936 Talbot Touring I had years ago (and wish I still did!) and a 1951 Chevy sedanette. When I have time I want to use this as a basis for a streamlined "swoopy" version in nPower for SolidWorks, or perhaps Modo.  Surfacing sucks in SolidWorks, and there's still something funky in the Variable Radius on the fender.

Used an HDRI and backplate from HDRI-Locations for the road shot, with a bit of post in CS5.  The "museum" shots are no post except the signature.

And speaking of funky, I have no idea what causes the "scratches" in the headlights.  I used an Area Diffuse light set @ 0.25 watts.

Anyway, enough fun, and now its back to work, unfortunately!

Oh how I love this car. Great work Bill. Even though the last two shots seem out of context, it works so well. Future retro. love it.

Thanks, Josh.  Well, I figured it was such a great car it deserved to be in the Museum of Modern Art!  Kidding aside, I just don't have many appropriate backplates for this kind of subject.  Someday I want to take a six month traveling vacation with my D90 and an HDR camera and "load up".

"Future Retro" is a great phrase!

Yup, surfacing is definitely... fun... in SolidWorks. ::)
OMG Bill, I just checked out nPower Power Surfacing for SolidWorks... That thing rocks!!! :o (I found it through your hint + fresh interest in SubD... I'm diving into MODO soon...)
It's a pity I can't find a useful purpose for nPower in the typical designs that I do. Otherwise I would already be spamming my boss with testimonials. ;D
