How can i get rid of this annoying factor when trying to render models in orthographic? or rather why is my image so far zoomed out when importing from a .3dm file. all I want is a high resolution image with little pixelation and the stupid clipping when I zoom in makes this impossible. Pictured below is the model as imported.

If it's a small part use the NURBs render mode, then you get smooth surfaces or you will need to increase the mesh density in your document properties if you are using Rhino. The ortho views tend to zoom to the extents of the scene, so set your camera yo the view you want, then in the parts list select the part(s) that you want to work on and then right click in the real time render preview screen and select "Centre and Fit Selection"

Also, with limited information about your model and other settings, it's hard to offer concrete advice (other than what Martin did). You could try uploading your packaged .ksp file for someone to look at and I'm sure you'd get you problem resolved.
