Hi everyone,

I started using Keyshot 6 a couple months ago, and I managed to create some newbie-quality test images, using the depth of field option. The software performed pretty well; even in my mid range specs machine it ran smoothly.

Recently, I tried to create new a render. The software runs ok, with no lags or anything, but when I turn on the Depth of Field feature the model behaves weird (see attached image - the model remains looking like this forever). The new model I was trying to render is even more simple than the previous ones that I rendered. I know this may happen because of low system resources, but since I managed to create test renders with the depth of field option turned on, using this very same machine before, I think it is not the cause.

I am using a DELL Inspiron Laptop, with the following specs:
-Intel core i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00 GHz
-8 Gb RAM, 150 Gb free disc space
-Windows 10 64-bit (up to date)
- CAD software> Solidworks. Not using the Keyshot add-in, just importing the CAD models into Keyshot. Previous renders with SW 2013, and recently upgraded to SW 2016.

I really appreciate any help with this. I don't know if it was because I upgraded to SW 2016. I can still open the scene files from the previous renders and they behave normally, but when I try to render any new model (no matter how simple it is) Keyshot's depth of field doesn't works.

What happens if you set the f-stop to a more realistic 4.5 - 26 ?

The F-stop slider behavior has changed from V5 to V6. When importing a model using mm in KeyShot 5, I often had to set the F-stop to extremely low values like .01 or .02. This has changed in KeyShot 6 and you should now see better results with integers, and you can also type in a larger value if needed. I sometimes have to increase the F-stop past the default of 6, simply type in a bigger value like 30 or 50.

Some improvements were also made to Depth of Field in version 6.2, try upgrading your version of KeyShot to get automatic Focus Distance detection based on "Look at" distance.

Also, if you are setting the focal point by clicking in the scene, try do a few clicks on the surface or ultimately a double-click to set it. On my end it works a bit buggy. I need to click several times around the same area or double-click to set the focal point. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this? It works like that in all scenes.

Hey, sorry for the late response! Thank you all for your answers.

I tried adjusting the F-stop value as TpwUK and Richard suggested. I wasn't aware that I was able to override the maximum default value! Unfortunately this didn't helped much to solve my problem. Neither did the double click focal point selection mentioned by Esben Oxholm . My last resort was to uninstall and re-install the software. After doing this, it is working normally again!

I don't know if this was because Windows 10 showed a "We Couldn't Complete the Updates/Undoing Changes" message a few days ago, which I solved by running a windows update troubleshooting. My new installation has been done after that, so maybe that is why now it works well.

I appreciate your support guys, thank you for your helpful replies. Even though I had to uninstall to solve my problem , I've learned two things about the depth field feature :)
