Hi guys,
I'm trying to do a realistic render of a threaded steel pipe with grease on it but I'm not sure what material to use for maximum real life appearance.

PS I'm looking for this kind of end result.

The first question is do you model the grease on the pipe?

jblaze

Yes, I've modeled the grease as a separate body in the model to ease the material application.
So far my best results are with liquid chardonnay and liquid coffee. I've used the first one for "clean"/newly applied grease and the second one to represent the used/old grease.
Of course I'm open for other suggestions :).

Hi
You can use Shiny Cloudy Plastic material and play with the Diffuse Transmission color and Rugosity transmission and choose more or less transparency.
In attachment a simple example>

Finema,
that looks pretty good. Can you upload the bip file? I played around with the Shiny Cloudy plastic material but didn't get even close to your result.

Thanks!
