I have just started moving over to Keyshot in a new job, I am coming from Cinema4D and Octane render. I am really trying to make the best of all the library and presets available, and one of the things I haven't figured out how to do yet is to save presets of objects/materials. All of the products I am working on have the same set of LED lights that I have to add, so I am making a parametric sphere and applying a Point Light material to it. How can I save this as a preset so I don't have to remake the light and apply the material every time? I have the point light material saved, but it would be great to take it a step further and save the whole thing. Is there an object library somewhere?

Thanks!

Hey Matt-

You could create a new Scene Set containing just the LED lights (Scene tab > right-click Scene Sets > Add New Scene Set), then go to File > Save Active Scene Set and save it to a new folder (named "Library" for instance). Then, when working on a new scene, you can go to File > Import, and import the saved BIP file containing the LED lights. Let me know if this works for you.

Or you can add a scene set and reduce your scene , meaning delete every object but the light object. Center this if necessary. Now save this scene set in the models folder of your resource path. Now you'll find the bip in main menu edit>add geometry.

Don't forget to delete the extra scene set.

It's a quick way for everyday stuff.

Hopefully we get a geometry library tab in KeyShot 7.

Hope that helped

Much better solution, Marco :)

That's a great workaround everyone. I'll give that a go today. I see some KS 7 vids on youtube, so I'm off to check those out and see if there is something akin to a model library coming up, but this will work for now.

I don't see where the models folder is in the default folder mapping in the preferences. I see everything else, materials, scenes, textures, etc.

Where would I find this folder?

Hey Matt- it's under: Documents > KeyShot 6 > Models.

There it is! it works! Thanks!

One last question, is there a way to make this a shareable location? We have successfully setup a shared materials folder on a network drive, which is awesome, is there a way to do that with the models folder? I'm on a PC, i know how I could do this with sym links on macOS, is there a way to do this on PC as well? The model folder doesn't show in the list of assignable library folders in the preferences.

Cheers!
