Render preview/progress not showing

Since reinstalling keyshot 7 on mac I don't see the spiraling squares on the output, now it just gets less and less grainier as it progresses. how do I get the old way back.

In the render dialogue window, under "Options", use Custom Control instead of Maximum Samples or Maximum Time.
