I am planning to make a small render farm running on a Mac for the home use. I am planning to purchase couple of Mac Mini:s. Is it possible to purchase a Network Render software with less cores than 32, which seems to be a minimum on the online store?

Then Mac Mini:s. Do them have to be servers or is normal Mac Mini enough? I will not use them for anything else than slaving the rendering process. For the Master I have a MacBook Pro.

850 euro for an i7 quad core .. not bad, no ?
that's 8 threads, right ?

32 cores are the minimum. And the computers can be anything. They don't have to be servers.

Ok, thanks for the info.

A minor disappointment. But at least you have the Network Rendering package on Black Friday sale.  ;)

Right now I am testing the evaluation version of Keyshot. With the models I normally import or generate, Keyshot runs really well on my hardware.  That is 3 yrs old Macbook Pro with 4 Gt Ram and Solid State Disk. The fan is on all the time.  :)

Still one question:
Will Network Render work on Apple Airport Wi-Fi (802.11n) network?

Brandon Davis

Network Rendering will work fine with that setup.

Thanks for the info Brandon.
I think there will be some additional software and hardware purchases ahead this week.  ;)
