Paint decals/labels with a material and/or text with materials

It would be nice to be able to paint decals/labels with a material. It would also be nice to be able to directly type text on model surfaces like decals with material fills.

I would vote for this one (you can do this sort of in PhotoWorks).

This would enable us to simulate material gradients.  Transitioning from one material to another..  This would be very useful.
