Hi,
I have a decal (label) on a model and i would like to emboss a part of it.
I use Textures > Emboss : the decal hide the embossing part.
I hope it's easier with Keyshot 6 ?

Thanks

I don't know if they are still taking on beta testers either, no harm in asking though :)

But then, it is not possible with keyshot 5 ?

Not that i am aware of. I normally model the parts where labels would go. This way you get a small clean surface that can then be exported to MudBox or Sculptris/Zbrush to add the bump directly to the geometry or would just type the text directly on that surface without having to export. Remember that KS5 can handle billions of Tri's so the added weight by using text or drawn logos is pretty much a redundant argument.

If you are using a Poly modelling app such as Modo, Max, C4D etc then add Ring and Loop cuts to prepare the mesh where needed and then you can use UV mapping to paint directly on the model or create the maps with your favourite photo/bitmap editor.

This would only work with one decal, but couldn't you add the decal through the texture tab instead of the label tab? Be sure to turn off repeat so that it doesn't tile, get the decal setup how you like, then add the bump in the bump section of the textured tab with "sync" checked.

If you have a separate surface/face then you are correct. You would then use duplicates and place them where needed or model a separate surface/face for each label.

Hi,
I can't add the decal through the texture tab because it's a bottle (glass texture)
Thanks

Hi,
ok for a separate surface/face
But, why it will be easier in Keyshot 6
Thanks

Because v6 introduces a base material type for the label such as plastic, metal, metallic paint etc. This then allows you to add bump maps and to have greater control over roughness settings, plus the ability to inherit the bump map applied to the main part via a check box.

Thanks Martin.
I want KS6 !  :D
