Hi,
Is it posible to export an environment as an HDR or TIFF file for use in another program?

Thanks in advance,
E.C.

Not yet, but it's a feature we're evaluating for the future!

jarane

Thanks,
Are there any work-arounds?

Thanks again,
E.C.

I'm not aware of any, sorry!

The closest I could imagine is to take a screenshot of the HDRI preview and use it to re-build something similar in Photoshop :/

Hey E.C.-

I did a test, it worked flawlessly, and it couldn't be any easier :)  Simply:

1. Open a new file with a 2:1 Landscape ratio.
2. Under the Image tab, set the Gamma to 1.
3. Set the Environment to "All Black" from the Studio category (this step isn't really necessary, but I did it anyway as a safeguard).
4. Under the Environment tab, set the Background type to "Backplate Image", navigate to your desired .hdz file, and apply as the Backplate.
5. In the Render Dialogue, set the resolution to match that of the .hdz file and render as a TIFF32.
6. Open the TIFF32 in Photoshop and save as an .hdr file.
Done.

In my example, I used the Conference Room 3K environment. I brought the newly saved .hdr file back into KeyShot and did a quick comparison render, and it appears to be identical. Make sure the Gamma is set back to 2. Images attached are:

1. Original .hdz
2. TIFF32> .hdr

Wow. How did you even begin to figure that out? Haha

I'm totally blown away by that workflow! It's always cool to see something that can't "officially" be done ... being done :)

Thank you, Richard! Yeah I really like the challenge of trying to figure out ways to make applications "bend" and do what they're not "officially" supposed to :)

dmerziii, it just struck me out of nowhere, and I thought to myself "this is too easy, it's not gonna work", and well...it did!

Thanks guys :)

Hi bdesign,
you are a genius!!! Thanks for your time and effort!!!!

Maybe you can come up with a workaround for exporting .obj files while retaining all the materials (and cameras!!)

Btw, you already have my vote for the presidency
