I have read on a few posts that the best way to open a model rendered in an older version is to save as a package. Is there any other way to achieve this. I am working with KS7 but am trying to open a KS5 bip file for a freelance job. Any thoughts?

The reason why we recommend a package file (.ksp) is that you will then ensure that you have all textures, environments, and backplates the scene needs.

You can open the bip file, but you may miss resources that are being used. The log window under the Help menu will show you what is missing. You will then need to ask the provider for these resources.
