Hi Guys,
I'm trying to both practice my rendering skills and also potentially use this effect in an upcoming project but I'm not sure how to recreate it. Do you think I should model the holes or create them using opacity textures?
And in regards to the latter, how would I create the effect of white circles inside the black?

On the other side of things, How can I use a real life picture to be reflected off the material, while also showing scenery behind said material/surface?

Thanks for your help guys!!!

Hey ccamp104,

I think this is how I would solve the Problem. (See the attachments)
Punching holes in your model only increases the polys....

Hey, so the picture you show is basically a normal metallic surface with a simple hole pattern (which you can make by using the mesh texture for opacity).
The white circles are caused by having some camera blur and then going overboard with 'clarity', which you can do in Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom. (or several mobile apps).
