hi
actually i don't know how to exactly explain my point but i try  ;D
imagine i have two objects with two separated materials...like a wood and barbed wired around it( something like lucille bat at walking dead)...now i want to use blood splash but i want it to be applied to both materials at a same time.how can i do that?
or imagine i have 2 objects and i want to apply a label for for both...
sorry if it's confusing  :-\

I had a similar problem a while back. The way I soleved it was the following. I set up my first material with one of the diffuse, specular, bump and lable. This material I applied to both geometries.  Than I selected the one object with the "wrong" e.g. diffuse map, right mouse click, click material, click unlink material. Now you have a seperate material where you can replace you rdifferent maps without affecting the lable.

If you have KeyShot Pro you can also open the material graph for the material with the label set up, select and copy the label nodes, open the graph for the material you want to add the label to, paste the label nodes and connect them to the material.
Hope it makes sense.

thanks i''ll try... but i can't get these kind of limitation at keyshot.i work with cinema 4d and you can easily put objects in a group and apply a material to whole group apart from each object's material.

There is a solution with a little workaround.

I created a scene with a cube and a sphere (placed intersected).
Then exported both as a obj
Them import the obj with the option "keep parts" and group by materials
Now both parts works like one. So you can apply a label across both parts.
Then unlink the material at one of the parts
And now you can drag any material (holding CTRL to keep the label) from the library to the part.

Hope that helps

Thanks to Eric (bdesign) for this workaround!

Hope that helps
