I wanted to create a turntable of my main creature in this scene, and experimenting with the Cutaway feature, I was not able to isolate a cylindrical cut of the worm and a circular area immediately around it. I attempted to use a hollow tube structure to cut out a doughnut shape that left the worm in the middle visible, but if the camera is within that enormous doughnut shape, it cannot view outside of it.

If there is a way to do this already, I was not able to figure it out.

*I would like the ability to have a Cutaway Material that isolates only what it overlaps and hides everything else. I could center on that Cutaway cylinder shape and make a clean turntable around it.

Hello.

(nice sculpting by the way!)

I've tried different things with experimental feature like backside mask or ray mask to invert the cutaway - but without luck.

What worked with current version KeyShot 8.1.58 is intersecting parts with the same cutaway material. See the details in the attached file.

You'll find in the scene:
- 1 little sphere in the center positioned on the ground
- 1 little cube near the sphere cut away completely from the material
- 1 cylinder in the center intersecting most of the sphere in the center, but placed 0.01 mm over the ground to get correct ground shadows
- 1 giant cylinder placed 0.01 mm over the ground, too

But one important note: you have to deal with the limitations as described in the manual

Hope that helps
Cheers

Wow! You did it! A double negative overlap trick! haha I just downloaded the file and played with it. I had to apply a normal material to see what the cut-away parts were doing! That is soo cool! Thank you so much for sharing this and helping me out! I'm going to explore doing this on my Giant worm scene again. I really appreciate your help figuring this out.
