Does KS "Max Samples" ignore lighting settings?

In some situations KS will not let you do Custom Control in rendering and you can only choose Max Samples or Max Time. If you do Max Samples, does that mean KS will ignore my lighting settings from the Lighting tab such as Shadow Quality, Ray Bounces, etc.?
