Hello KeyShooters -

It's been a while since I had posted anything. Here's a little sneak peek of something I had been working on in my hotel room while in Cali:

I used four passes:
- metal pass (left out the diamond reflection so it didn't look as busy)
- diamond pass
- sparkle pass
- masking pass

Check out the HD version (the others don't do it justice).

Another one to come soon (a longer version).

Comments and critiques are welcomed!  :)

Mmmmm that's lovely!

Cheers!

Awesome!
Maybe I missed a webinar where you have explained how can I make this montage ?
(four animations in one)

Chad Holton

Thanks, tamas!  :)

This is a webinar similar to the process used: http://www.youtube.com/v/ISFEJ4tZUzw

Here's the final video I ended up with:

Simple turntable showing three different gem configurations.

This is really very good.

I will add, but I do not know how ...

When you look at a diamond in a window, when you start moving a little,
there are bursts ----> a facet of the stone that becomes really, really brighter, and it changes when you move a little, there is another facet that bursts! Is it possible to do this animation?

Best regards.

Antoine

Thanks, Antoine  :)

Yes, this is possible. It would just come down to lighting and setting it up that way. I intentionally left out a lot of the burst so it wouldn't dominate the animation. I tried to keep it subtle anyway.  ::)

Nice work Chad  ;)
Are you changing the colors in after effects as well?
Yellow diamond looks very natural but the blue triangle doesn't look so realistic in my eyes.
Rendition of the white gold is very good and shiny, I like it :)

Andre.

Thanks, Andre!

All the compositing (sparkles and frame blending) was done with Blender. Thanks for your input, what is it about the sapphire that doesn't look real? Is it too much sparkle happening?

I think another light needs to be added around 12 o'clock to give the gems an extra light to reflect giving them more depth.
