Amazed by the great metal texture renderings (http://keyshot.com/forum/index.php/topic,5693.0.html) by biomechanic, I came to the conclusion that I need to work on my own texturing skills. You really can use them to make an image stand out.

I grabbed a trumpet from GrabCad (http://grabcad.com/library/trumpet--5 and created this:

I think it's not perfect, but a great start.
I smile for your thoughts :)

Best regards.

Great start. Needs a bit more contrast. Looks a little washed out.

Definitely great start! The washed-out look is kinda workin' for this though, imo. Sorta looks like what you might see in the hands of an old trumpet player in New Orleans or laying outside on a wood bench. WORK IT ;-)

Here's my take on it....

If it's spoiling your thread Esben, I'll remove it

Sorry, where are my manners, nice render Esben...

I like the washed out look .. it looks like a titanic-era-scene-photo.

I really like the "worn" look, but maybe it could be a bit darker in color?  Copper and brass really darken with age.  Texture is great!

Thanks for your comments. I'll try to work on some of your suggestions.

@biomechanic: No problem :) I really like the way yours is scratched while maintaining the shinyness. Any tips on how to achieve that look?
And again. The environment looks great!
