Inconsistent shadows - Is it my settings?...

Hi All

During a recent render session I experienced inconsistency in shadows coming off ribs in a plastic part (see attached).
Any suggestions on how I might fix this?

Render settings:

Resolution: 1920 x 1082
Samples: 16
Ray Bounces: 6
Anti aliasing: 4
Shadow: 4
Global illumination: 2
Pixel blur: 1.5

As a side note I find when I let the image res-up it doesn't have the same issue.

Cheers.

What happens if you crank up global illumination to the max (5)?

Why not use the realtime renderer by setting a time limit for rendering (as I do) ?

In fact, for the ace guys here, when do you benefit from not using realtime renderer for final render ?

bendruce

Thats a great point. I've not really used the time limit rendering much.
Having said that I took a screenshot after leaving it to res-up for about 40mins while I had Fri night beers.
Will have to check it out properly Monday.

hello,

I sometimes have the same problem.

See my post and image below.

It is not normal to have artifacts with maximum quality settings.

I wish the team Luxion explains this problem.

Thank you.

Is the problem a low res HDRI environment?

Antoine, the image (of trees) through the window looks very 'blocky'. I assume that is the environment and not a backplate?

For these small features it may be better to use the realtime rendering mode (time or sample limited). It will also be further improved in 4.1. Alternatively, in advanced rendering mode you can increase the anti aliasing level and the global illumination quality to reduce the issue.
