Title: How to export from Maya?
Post by: guest84672 on January 17, 2011, 07:46:14 AM
Hi Maya gurus,

I have a client who is pretty stressed out because the large Maya models he has show terrible tessellation. What setting is needed inside Maya prior to exporting to obj in order to avoid this?

Thanks for your help!

Thomas

Hello Thomas

If I were you I would get the tessellation correct in your client's scene before exporting. I am assuming that you have a NURBS model. If you do then I like to use the Attribute Spreadsheet to set all of the surfaces to display Render Tessellation. This way you can view the shaded scene and see how the tessellation will look.

To adjust the tessellation you can either select individual surfaces and in the Attribute Editor adjust the Tessellation properties, or select all (or a collection) of surfaces and use the Render > Set NURBS Tessellation menu to set the properties for the selected surfaces.

I prefer to export an FBX file from Maya and import this into Keyshot.

Let me know how you get along.

Regards

Chris
