Title: (SOLVED) Flickering Area Light ( Animation)
Post by: damianh10 on July 24, 2017, 12:02:26 PM
I'm working on a few animations using only light from a physical light in the scene. The Idea is to animate the light moving across a product.

I've been using the Area Light material. When I process the animation the light flickers and looks like a strobe light.

Anyone else run into this problem?

Edit: I figured out what the problem was.  The Area Light material had "visible in shadows" turned on. The geometry I was using for the light source was casting a moving shadow which caused the flickering effect.

If you're rendering max time, this might happen. I'd use max samples or advanced control. This will ensure each frame renders for the appropriate amount of time to match quality frame to frame. Likely will reduce flickering.
