Is it not possible anymore to assign different materials to separate bodies within a part from solidworks? ???
Keyshot used to recognize bodies.
KeyShot 2.2 recognizes individual bodies in the part file. This is all part of the new importer. Before that, KeyShot only recognized separate bodies if they were colored differently.
yes I know. But what do we do wrong?
We have SW2011 SP3.0 with the new Keyshot importer and use Keyshot 2.2.65.
When we import an assembly with parts with separate bodies, with different colors, the parts import as one body with one color. (even when the bodies have different colors)
When I assign material the whole part changes as one body.
I cannot see the bodies in the tree.
It seems that only when I change the colors of the faces in SW I can assign different materials.
My colleague pointed me at the exact same glitch. He has the same workstation and configuration.
please help.
Can you share an example?
I sent you an email.
any news on this issue?
Hi there
I actually share the same issue.
SW 2011 Sp 3.0 ...latest Keyshot installed ( standalone 2.265 and SW2011 plugin ...issue however already started to occur with the Keyshot 2.0 update and SW 2011)
When I open/import a Multibody-SW part file etc in Keyshot directly( including different colors for each part ) it works very well and all the separate parts are recognized.
If the same file is opened in Keyshot directly via the SW plugin..directly through the SW interface...Keyshot is merging all the separate colored parts together to one unibody.
This issue didn't occur in the former 2009/2010 SW plugin
This issue occurs with any kind of multibody part file I create with SW 2011. I quickly ran a test file with just 2 simple cubes ( inside the same SW part file...not merged...different colors assigned ). If I try to open this file directly with the KS plugin from within SW2011..Keyshot will "merge" these 2 cubes together and I can't assign different colors.
If this native multibody sw2011 file is saved ( saved out of SW2011 directly ) as a step-file ..imported back into SW2011 and then opened in Keyshot by using the KS plugin from within SW2011 ...Keyshot treats these 2 cubes as separate parts as it should be.
Any news in that matter ?
Best Regards
miike
We will look into this.
I'm really suprised that not a lot more people have found this issue.
The SW/Keyshot plugin is a perfect way to quickly setup a render from SW.
In the state it is now it's hardly usable.
The SW2010 exporter worked better.
in my opinion this is a plain bug. I hope you solve this issue soon.
Dear Thomas
Thank you for listening and taking care of that issue.
Do you have any news regarding that matter ?
Best Regards
Miike
We will fix this bug in the plugin shortly. It works fine when you import your data directly.
Dear Thomas
Good to hear. Thanx for taking care of that.
well..yes...it works absolutely fine if I directly import the sw file.....but that obviously defeats the purpose of having that plugin.
Regards
Hello Thomas,
It's quiet on this issue for some time. What is the status?
Please don't delay this till V3.
The separation of bodies from the importer is important for us and it used to work in former releases.
We are consolidating all plugins to have a consistent install location, hence the delay. We hope to get this wrapped up shortly.
Your patience is much appreciated.
Hello Thomas,
Please tell me WHEN this will be solved.
We have several Keyshot licenses and really need to be able to assign materials to SW bodies.
Its more than three months ago that I contacted technical support because of this bug.
I think its not fair to take away functionality from paying customers for such a long time.
I understand that you want to improve the installers for all importers but I'd be happy with just a bug fix at this time.
Also some feedback from technical support would be nice.
If I contact sales for a license upgrade I get feedback right away....
We didn't "take any functionality away". We are still working on it as we found some inconsistencies between plugin and direct importer.
Once again, the direct importer works fine.
I find the suggestion to use the direct importer ok as a temporary solution.
But when it takes three months to fix something that worked perfectly before I think its fair to ask when this will be solved. In fact by saying "just use the direct importer" I read that the priority for solving this is not very high.
I consider the hit&render from Solidworks one of the base functionalities of Keyshot.
The only way to get this functionality back is downgrade to SW2010 and install the SW2010 plugin?
When using the direct importer to quickly render some concept variants is not so easy when you always have to save the file in a PDM environment.
Can you confirm that the fixed plugin will be fixed in keyshot V2 and not force me to buy V3 because of this?
The plugin is independent of KeyShot. You can always color the bodies in the SW file, and it will work just fine. I admit, it is inconvenient since it requires an extra step.
No, also the coloring of bodies doesn't work anymore.
Only parts or colored faces are recognized.
Examples sent to TS April/May 2011.
So is the plugin going to be repaired and working for KS2?
Seems that all the development is focused is on Keyshot 3 now.
Don't forget you still have customers on KS2 who also want to get their bugs solved...
Any news on the SW plugin? We're waiting for almost 5 months now.
SW 2012 is about to be released so then we have to wait a while again before the new importer is ready?
can you PROMISE me that this bug will be fixed in Keyshot 2? (Not only in KS3)
While beta testing I see KS3 has to come a long way before it is good enough to be a successor of KS2.
So I suppose it will still take a long time to develop this.
As long as KS 3 is not at least as quick as KS2 there is no reason for us to update since speed is the main reason for us to use Keyshot.
From what I've seen until now the animations is not interesting enough for us.
So Please solve the SW body problem in the KS2 importer and let me know when we can expect this to be solved.
You are referring to the plugin, not the importer, correct?
And you also read under the known issues that we know that KeyShot 3 is slower, and it is being worked on.
Yes I'm still referring to the SW plugin, my mistake.
I know that the speed it is a known issue in KS3 and introducing a final version that is slower than KS2 is a no-go I'm sure you"ll see the importance of that.
But I'd rather had you working on a known issue in the current version that still is not working first than on new problems in a version that yet has to be introduced.
My fear is that the plugin problem will never be solved and you are going to tell me that I have to upgrade to KS3 to get the plugin working again.
By that time I suppose the KS2 plugin will not work with SW2012.
