Title: Espresso; a bubble study
Post by: DMerz III on September 20, 2018, 01:29:26 PM
 :D So I'm very excited for this new released, as there are some major features which should make my daily grind much more pleasant to push boundaries.

100% modeling by me, some textures/maps from Poliigon.com

Liquid interaction is fully on display here with the double walled glass + espresso. This feature simplifies my workflow so much. Thank you, devs, for listening!

I was going for that 'cascade' effect that happens in a freshly poured espresso (or certain dark beers from Ireland).
I wanted to use the new bubbles feature to make it happen and use a density map to control that effect. Eventually would like to make this an animation with steam coming from the top and animate the bubbles 'cascading' down the inside of the glass, but this still will do for now.

The foam (crema) on top of the liquid is also using the bubbles feature and it turned out even better than I expected. (Using the cloudy plastic shader on both of those bubble volumes).

The plate embossment is a displacement map I created. The 'crumbs' are simple spheres with displacement as well, super excited about how well displacement works here.

New tools used in this;

- Liquid Interaction (Nested Dielectrics)
- Displacement
- Bubbles (Scattering)
- Rendered with Photographic Image Style

Hardly any post was done here (some patches), I've attached the raw render at the end for comparison.

Much appreciated, Eric! Very inspired by the other works I've seen in the Beta gallery forum.

A closer crop of the bubbles.

Nice one David! The nested dielectrics certainly are helpful and this does a great job of showing it off! Those bubbles are pretty great too.

Hey thanks very much, Eric! Glad you like it! I am amazed by the new bubble scattering capability.
