Title: Fuzzy black light source with Scattered Medium
Post by: spingys on December 04, 2018, 07:20:23 AM
Hey there!

I just watched Esben's Webinar on Scattered Medium in KS8, and tried to follow along to understand what is happening.
Particularly in the Cityscape walkthrough though, I ran into a problem. My light source (either Arealight or Spotlight turns into a fuzzy black haze as soon as the value of my Density becomes greater than the Transparency Distance.
However, if I make the value of the Density smaller, I lose all the distance-dropoff (See two samples bellow).
The light also comes out this way in the rendering.

Am I doing something fundamentally wrong?

And does this effect appear with multiple scattering active?

I just tried. This one has a Transparency Distance of 1 and a Density of 2. While it doesn't come out as bad as the first sample, it is still noticibly there  :-[ Any ideas?

Are you using units? It doesn't look like it from your screen shot. I would make sure you've got units set in your scene and see if not having any real-world scale is making it act weird. Also, I assume you're not using image styles with curves adjustments?
