Title: Possible Bug with Cutaway Material ???
Post by: HaroldL on October 19, 2019, 02:58:26 PM
By chance I just came across what may be a bug in the Cutaway material. As shown in the attached images when the cutaway is active there are some artifacts on the screw threads. The part files are downloaded SolidWorks files from McMaster-Carr and were assembled in Alibre Design before sending the assembly to KeyShot. I did Edit the Normals of the screw in the Edit Geometry window and saw no change.

Uploaded images and package file for anyone's review and/or comments.

The outer cylindrical surface and the inner of the thread overlap each other. An offset would help. But this should be done in CAD, cause scaling wouldn't help in this case.
Probably you can use the displacement node for the offset. Just use a vertex texture with pure white connected to the displacement node. So you set a small displace value as an overall offset. This should help.
