Title: Poster Image
Post by: abarnes on November 12, 2014, 11:33:07 PM
Hi All,

I have a question regarding Hi-Resolution images. I need to produce an image that is going to be printed onto a poster. I have been asked to produce the image at a resolution of 300dpi at A3.

Can anyone tell me what settings I should have? The file type will be PNG.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Andy

First you need to setup the real time view to have the correct aspect ratio for A3. You can select A3 in the preset if your width is the long side of the A3 you are printing on.
Then you can set the resolution in the render dialog by typing 42 cm x 29,7 cm at 300 dpi which then equals 4961 x 3507 pixels.

Thanks for the reply Claus.

Could you tell me the aspect ratio for A3. I assume that this is different than the paper size?

Thanks,
Andy.

Set A3 ratio then set render size at 4950x3510 to give 16.5"x11.7" at 300dpi

A0 1189 x 841 mm 46.8 x 33.1 in
A1 841 x 594 mm 33.1 x 23.4 in
A2 594 x 420 mm 23.4 x 16.5 in
A3 420 x 297 mm 16.5 x 11.7 in
A4 297 x 210 mm 11.7 x 8.3 in
A5 210 x 148 mm 8.3 x 5.8 in

Thanks jhiker,

Sorry about my questions but I am new to Keyshot. I am still confused about the A3 aspect ratio that is inserted into the resolution in project - settings. What values do I need to enter to then set the render size to 4950 x 3510?

Thanks again,
Andy.

That's OK.
Choose A3 from the 'resolution presets' on the 'Settings' tab.
Hit the render button on the bottom toolbar.
In 'Print size' enter 16.5" in the left-hand box. Keyshot should fill in the right-hand box with '11.5"' to match the aspect ratio.
Set your output and render quality and away you go.

And don't forget to check "Clown Pass" on the Passes tab of the render window.  It will really help you, especially if it's a critical job, which it sounds like it is.  Open the Clown first (.png) in Photoshop, then use the "Place" command to import the beauty shot.  IMMEDIATELY link the two.  Now you can easily select anything that may need post adjustment.

Thanks All for your help. I notice that jhiker is using 5.1. I have not downloaded it yet and it seems to make life easier. I will download it now!!

Bill, I have not rendered anything with a clown pass yet, because I'm not sure what it does. Does it create a separate 'mask' for the different elements of the scene so they can be selectively adjusted later in Photoshop?

The aspect ratio of A-n paper is always the square root of two or about 1.414. I think I wrote an article about that once.

One thing that would really help, Claus, is a toggle between Landscape and Portrait.
