hi, just testing keyshot with a retina macbook pro mid 2014, fans start to work when i loaded keyshot, i see keyshot uses 100% of all cores, the fan is ALWAYS working when keyshot is loaded, i don´t mind the constant noise keyshot demands from the machine, i´m just worry if this somehow NOT A NORMAL situation and i  shouldn´t use keyshot with this machine and should  look for other computer to work with keyshot.. any opinion, thanks!

You can drop the number of cores being used, but of coarse this will effect performance. You can then set the advanced render to use all cores for final renders

Just to be sure "You can drop the number of cores being used" we do this on the top keyshot bar (ribbon) right? if so the only way for the machine to gets quieter is just use 2 cores , got to test now if decreasing the usage of "all 8 cores" to 7,6,5 or 4 makes a difference, if it gets less hotter, not that the machine gets awfully hot with 8, im just testing which are the "right" settings for this computer..
thank you!

Yep, you got it Archimboldi - I forgot to say it's in the top left corner of the ribbon - Doh!

When you click render, you have the option to use all the cores and to do background rendering.

You might have a BIOS setting to tweak the system fan to a more acceptable profile too.

Not quite the same, but I have been running Keyshot on a early 2013 MBP (pre Retina) for as long as i've had the machine. Usually sees about 8 hours of render time a week, with the occasional overnight animation thrown in, so I'm not the biggest power user..

I have had no issues so far. I am sure however it's not adding to the usable life of my machine, but I expect about 3 maybe 4 years of use out of it anyway. I aways use the full 8 cores, unless juggeling many things at once and render time isn't the priority, then I may scale it down to 6 or 4.

Rendering on 8 cores quickly drives up the CPU temperature, and at around 70º the fans really kick in. They then run at about 5000 rpm to keep the temp at around 75º..

You can look into installing SMCFanControl on your mac. this allows you to override the fan settings to favour a higher RPM, or manually set it to max which on my model is 6200 RPM. Its a bit louder but knock the CPU temperature down to around 70º which, depending on who you ask, is still considered 'safe'.
