I'm putting this here because I think it needs work. I've seen how to use these things, but I have not seen them actually save time.

What I propose is to make whatever changes necessary to the software, and I'm fairly sure it's needed. And after that is complete, do a new tutorial on how to set up your file for rendering different versions, including a couple different models with a few scenarios, and maybe even display 2 models at once where one of the is translated and rotated. THEN after you think you're all finished. Update it with a couple part changes on each model, and change a base material that was consistent on all of the models.

The reason I bring this up is workflow. With all of those changes, currently, you'll find that you are likely best nearly starting over. Find a good workflow for that situation, and make sure the software has an intuitive way to handle it without slowing you down elsewhere.
