Is there a means of "group selection" of parts with the mouse?

With the scene tab open, hold down the shift key to enable selection via marquee.

Perfect! Thank you.

I had tried that but the actual selection lagged for a bit, I thought it must not be the way to do it... but waiting a few more seconds confirms the solution. Wonderful.
