Animation outputs to generic file type, not video

I am trying to output some animations, but when I go to look at the output video file, it's just a generic file type. If you try opening it up, it just prompts for a program to open it with. If I change Windows settings so I can see and change the file extension, I can add ".avi" after it and it then becomes a working video file.

My output is set to:  avi(MPEG4)

I also output the frames, so not a huge deal since I can combine them in Premiere if changing the extension doesn't work, but odd that it's not specifying the file type when it creates the file.

Figured out the issue... but might be a possible bug.
When you are in the rendering window in the animation tab, you set your frames and etc. Just below that, you specify the name and location of the video. Regardless of the movie type already being, you need to manually type the video extension (.avi in my case) at the end of the filename. In most programs, if you change the name of the file to be output and then move to another input field, the program will automatically append the extension. So in this case; if you leave the extension off, proceed with the render, and then look at the output file, it's just a blank file with no type. You can manually type the extension and boom, magically turns into the video file it should have been.

Just kinda weird functionality. I would've expected that it would see the video type you selected and just automatically append the appropriate extension when it generates the video.
